Facebook has posts; what are dental posts?
A post in the world of dentistry is an object that helps stabilize compromised tooth structure. It is usually cylindrical, might be threaded; could be made of a metal or fibrous polymer material and is generally cemented into a canal previously treated by root canal therapy.
If the tooth was severely damaged prior to treatment, this procedure will allow the addition of a ‘buildup’ material to make up for the lost structure. Overall, it allows for the crowning of the tooth; keeping it working in the mouth of the patient rather than lost!
Dr Hill and Dr Schneidmiller were both trained at UCLA School of Dentistry and are very adept at placing these posts when they are necessary. In fact, they’ve placed more posts in teeth than on Facebook!!
